[...] As a lot of people have already, I don‚Äôt think this is a huge deal. However, I also think its only at v0.0.1… in any case I‚Äôm not trying to knock it down either because I think this is just a first pass at whatever Winer is trying to accomplish - ‚Äúattempt to turn your HDTV into a platform that embraces the Internet‚Äú.
[...] The sharing is clunky - you have to go through the “events” page in your account to share a photo that you’ve seen in your screensaver. Maybe I’ll get used to this, I don’t know. Hopefully Winer will stick with the app and make it really nice to use - it’s not there yet but the potential is big and you can feel how close it is. Podcasting News says the big picture here is that HDTV is the new platform. That sounds good to me. [...]

gotta agree....hooking up to flickr is basically a "Hello World" test code for messing around with APIs. Don't know what's the big deal. We did this for wireless...so flickr gets called based on proximity.

[...] What irks me, is the echo chamber. As usual, I dare add. Some call it “The Next Internet Platform”, some talk about, how “the service leverages a number of APIs to do some very cool things”. It’s a fecking RSS downloader and/or simple FlickrAPI caller. My sixteen year old niece, no joke, does precisely that as a science project. Her Python program aggregates all the “in” sites via various APIs and RSS readers, and sends her an email every morning. If she can do it, anyone can. # [...]
