According to the iPodder team, "The recent iTunes 4.8 update breaks the COM connection between iPodder and iTunes." An update has been released to address the issue, version 2.0.3, but some users are still reporting compatibility problems. Users who updated from iTunes 4.7 will see a ceasing of iPodder's ability to create playlists and add songs to them. New users may see a complete failure of iPodder to start, with log errors such as "KeyError: '{9DD6680B-3EDC-40DB-A771-E6FE4832E34A}'" or "TypeError: This COM object can not automate the makepy process - please run makepy manually for this object". With the update, Apple increased the version number on their COM library from 1.2 to 1.3, and iPodder 2.0 was affected by the change. The iPodder team has created a new version of iPodder, version 2.0.3, which adds support for the updated iTunes COM library. The iPodder team is also planning to make the iTunes communcation part more robust to ensure future updates of iTunes will give no more problems. They plan to contact Apple to be part of the beta-testers program so they can check for problems up-front. iPodder can learn more about the issue, and get the latest version of the software, at the iPodder site.
