KYOURADIO will feature podcasts created exclusively by its listeners, and be available in San Francisco at 1550 KYCY-AM and streamed online at www.kyouradio.com. The station's inaugural podcast will be from Dave Winer, a software developer who was instrumental in the development of podcasting technology. Users began uploading their podcasts to KYOURADIO on Wednesday, April 27, the day the station was first announced. Once uploaded, podcasts become eligible to be selected for broadcast. Since then, more than 400 podcasts have been uploaded from users in 49 states, as well as cities across the world, including London, Toronto and Hong Kong. Submitted podcasts are of varying lengths covering a wide range of topics, including, views on life in San Francisco, thoughts pondered while commuting, highlights from the world of science, time travel, amusement parks, and the best in bluegrass, indie, rock and Asian music, among many others. Programming on the station will be determined by listener interests and feedback, and evaluated on a daily basis. Podcasting technology, made popular in late 2004, allows users to create and upload their own audio programs on the Internet which can be downloaded to multimedia players at a later date. The software also lets users subscribe to their favorite podcasts and have them sent automatically to their players for listening at their convenience. Podcasts broadcast on KYCY-AM and streamed online will not be available for download. Infinity, a division of Viacom, operates 180 radio stations, with stations covering the news, modern rock, oldies, country, FM talk, classic rock and urban formats.
