« Poker Expert Phil Gordon Bets on Podcasting | Main | Rush Limbaugh Declares "I am the hottest thing in podcasting" »NPR Wants Your Ideas About PodcastsJune 07, 2005
Some NPR member stations are podcasting some of their more popular locally-produced programs, including Overbooked from KCRW in Santa Monica, California; and On The Media from WNYC in New York. One NPR staple, Talk of the Nation Science Friday is already offered in podcast format. If you'd like to see more NPR program offerings made available in this format, this might be a great way to let their program directors know. Commentsexcellent idea. we need more of the podcasting specially on more popular prog. CarTalk, Market Place, Fresh Air Posted by: sia Sanati at June 8, 2005 02:19 AM One issue is that some NPR programs are available at audible.com for a subscription fee, so would NPR undercut this by offering free podcasts? It depends on the exclusivity they have with audible I guess. Posted by: Patrick at June 8, 2005 09:50 AM I just got an email from Audible that states that All Things Considered will no longer be available for download as of 1 July. Maybe PodCasts are on the horizon? Posted by: Brad P. at June 8, 2005 02:38 PM An All Things Considered podcast would be fantastic. I'm guessing that NPR is looking at all of its shows and figuring out how to make them podcast-able. In a nutshell, I bet it's going to take eliminating RIAA music.... Posted by: jlewin Cartalk as a podcast would be fantastic, especially if you could click between segments to avoid the boring puzzlers ;p Posted by: mattias at June 28, 2005 11:25 AM I would love to see podcasts of Car Talk, Fresh Air, Talk of the Nation and other popular NPR programming. I think more and more people will be interested in getting their programming over podcast, particularly with the new release of iTunes that supports podcasts. Posted by: Bryna at June 28, 2005 04:01 PM This American Life would be a great podcast as I am rarely ever in my car on Sunday at the time the show is broadcast. Posted by: salil soman at June 29, 2005 11:55 AM For about a year I have been using software to record your various shows online and converting to itunes-friendly files, because my local public radio station doesn't have many of the programs. Now I'm podcasting shows (To the Point) which is much easier. I would LOVE it if you moved to a podcast-compatible format. Posted by: Lettie flores at July 2, 2005 11:57 AM It would be nice if NPR supported podcasts and/or was more Mac friendly in general. Granted, podcats are not limited to Mac computers, but for audio selections on their website, they only provide two methods of listening to their content: Real Media or Windows Media Player. Is it asking to much to have NPR offer a transport method for their audio that Mac computers support. I am a long time Windows user who has recently purchased a couple Macs for his family and would like to have NPR playing on these machines daily. Posted by: Kevin at July 4, 2005 02:49 AM I just recently bought my 3rd ipod, 20gb with color screen and i have also bought an 2 ghz 17 inch. I am very happy with it and my ipod and i listen to cartalk quite a bit and it would be great if they would offer a free podcast. I think its nor worth paying 4 dollars for it on audible. Posted by: mr.pong CarTalk, CarTalk, CarTalk, FreshAir, Morning Edition. I contribute each year to support the programming and don't feel like supporting audible.com...
