Calling "podcast" popular is a stretch - it didn't even make the list of the Lycos Top 100 Search Terms for 2005. "Paris", "Pamela", "poker", "Pokemon", "Playstation"....they all beat "podcast".
While Oxford may have recognized the term, that doesn't mean that people know what a podcast is or that they have even heard of the term. Podcasting is still far from mainstream, too complicated for many people and even a bit geeky.
While most people don't know about podcasting yet, we think that they soon will.
Podcasting has turned up on many analysts lists of the most important news trends and technologies in 2005. And, with millions of new owners of MP3 players in the last month alone, podcasting's future looks bright.
While "podcast" may not be ready to win any popularity contest yet, 2006 promises to be an exciting year for the technology and for podcasters.
