Strange Jobs in Podcasting

April 01, 2006

Last April 1st, we uncovered the surprising news of the Broadcasting Organization of the Greater United States purchasing the rights to the technology underlying podcasting. The story was one that the mainstream media chose to ignore, presumably because there wasn't a "Web 2.0" angle.

This April 1st brings news too strange to make up.

Podcasting has barely been around long enough for there to be jobs in it, but already some very unusual podcasting job announcements are appearing:

The Paparazzi Bridal Podcast is looking for females of all types, 18 - 55, to play bride in a series of video podcasts. Another company was recently looking for a tall, hot buff dude to appear in a series of video podcasts.

And, is it too much to ask for an experienced Web 2.0 expert with expertise with AJAX, tagging, scripting languages, Web services, Web databases, RSS, Wikis, chat, webcasts, podcasting and VoIP?

There also appears to be demand for 3D modellers willing to work for low pay and "podcast bonuses". According to the ad, "Monsters and men are easier, but girls are very hard." Well, that's a given.

If you're a college student with no real-world experience, why not spend the summer assessing and recommending enhancements for all segments of existing communications strategy at Verizon? Seems like a good job for an intern to do.

Finally, Seth Godin, a marketing guru best known for his clean pate and purple cow, is looking for a summer intern that podcasts and is "slightly unbalanced."

Paparazzi Bridal Podcast

Wanted Females all types 18 - 55 to play bride. Must have Gown or Wedding type dress. Wanted Grooms 18-65. Must have tux or dark suit. Audition and production is the same day. Audition 7-8pm. No acting preparation necessary for audition. Paparazzi still shoot for chosen paid bride and groom 8:20-8:40. All invited are welcome to stay for the best part - the mock vow sessions. Couples welcome to perform an outrageous vow scene in front of our priest.(under 3 minutes please). All others participating will be paired up in likely and unlikley combinations to read their ''special vows'' that we have written for you. All receive digital video copy and credit. Best clips will be posted on nj.org/tv and Google video. Additional vow writers welcome.

Tall, Hot Buff Dude Needed

Timberwolf Entertainment recently posted an advertisement looking for an actor to fill a role in series "Slipped Discs." The role is a love interest for the female lead on the show, and is a 2 episode commitment. Only actors at least 5'8", athletic, and good looking were asked to apply.

Web 2.0 Expert

Require a professional consultant with expertise in Web 2.0 technologies such as AJAX, Tagging, Scripting languages, Web services, Web database, RSS, Wiki and more. Also require expertise with basic Web technologies such as Chat, Webcast, Podcast, VoIP.

Must have worked on Web 2.0 projects and able to provide references.

The ideal candidate must be able to apply the best features of social networking Web sites such as Flickr, Facebook and del.icio.us to a critically important and challenging problem.

3d Modeller

Looking to find a modeller to help in the project. This is a small indie animation. The pay is low at this time. If profit is made from the animation that will be shared based on merits. Pay is incentive plus 5% + PODcast bonuses.

Communications Strategy College Intern

Assess and recommend enhancements for all segments of existing communications strategy. Document and present findings, including potential success metrics, to management-level audience for approval and/or concurrence. Collaborate with both business and development resources to implement approved enhancements. Monitor, document, and present status of approved enhancements through final implementation Develop mass communications (e.g., bulletin topics, podcast scripting, etc.)

Slightly Unbalanced Podcaster Needed

Previous work experience isn’t important. What matters is domain knowledge and passion.
It’s the kind of person who has strong opinions about RSS readers, or who can talk intelligently about different search algorithms and feels strongly about the difference between Wordpress and Typepad. This is someone who is personally offended when tables are used incorrectly in HTML.

If you're unbalanced and personally offended when tables are used incorrectly, you know where to apply.
