« Today is Officially RSS Day! | Main | Gnomedex Update: Before Senators, One of The Presidents of the United States of America »Separated at Birth: OPML & Target LogosJune 30, 2006At the 2006 Gnomedex conference, being held in Seattle Washington June 29 through July 1, host Chris Pirillo introduced a proposed OPML icon that bears an uncanny resemblance to the Target logo. Proposed OPML Icon
Target Logo
OPML is an XML format designed to complement RSS feeds, and can be used to represent any arbitrary structure data. "Just about every news aggregator supports importing and exporting OPML, but there hasn’t yet emerged an OPML icon design that is equally as appealing as the “standard” feed icon set forth by Firefox and subsequently adopted by the industry," said Pirillo. "In working with information architects on TagJag, we decided to dedicate some cycles to designing an OPML icon for use on the site." While the new icon coordinates well with one of the popular RSS icons, its similarity to the Target logo could cause many companies to avoid adopting it. CommentsI like the new icon - it matches well with the RSS logo both in shape and style. Posted by: Tony at June 30, 2006 01:24 PM We're testing out the new logo on Zimbio.
