NAMM Update: iKey Plus Turns Audio Into MP3s

At the recent 2006 NAMM Winter Show, iKEY-Audio, introduced the iKey Plus– a device that records live audio and converts it into MP3 or WAV files and then saves them directly to an iPod or other USB-compatible storage device.

Smart Fabric Used to Create iPod Jackets

The jacket features a 5-button switch sensor with multiple capabilities including Play/Pause, Track Forward, Track Back, Volume Up and Volume Down. This self-powered system requires no batteries and supports all iPod and iPod mini models. The jacket is machine washable and dry cleanable when the iPod and iPod connector are removed.

According to the fabric manufacturer, fabric technology replaces hard touch pads, flexi-circuits and polymer switches that have limited the growth of the wearable electronics market.

Hi-Tech Handbag Charges Electronic Devices

Joe Hynek, an Iowa State University engineering graduate student, has gone from studying computational fluid dynamics to winning an aesthetic design award in an international handbag contest.

The handbag is literally a power purse, with six solar panels incorporated into the exterior design. Hynek connected these panels to a device inside the purse so that a cell phone, PDA, or other small electronic items can be charged. It was the stylish design, though, that won the $500 second-place design award in the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists' (AATCC) 2005 competition.

Access iPod from Any Room in Your Home

Speakercraft has introduced the MZC/iPod Interface kit, which is designed to let you access an iPod from any room in your house. The interface works with all iPod models with a Dock Connector.

The naviPod provides five commands; volume up, volume down, pause/play, next track and previous track. SpeakerCraft's naviPod kit includes a 5-button infrared remote control and a receiver unit that plugs directly into the top of the iPod.
