AIM Announces UK Indie Music Podcasting License

AIM Digital, the new media arm of the UK’s Association of Independent Music (AIM), has launched a global trial license for podcasting, enabling UK independent repertoire to be used in podcasts around the world.

The six month license will provide a means for broadcasters to legally podcast a variety of UK indie music. According to AIM, "The agreement will facilitate the development of a legal market, enabling all concerned to gather usage data and gauge advertising potential towards establishing a long-term business model."

Promonet Offers Podcasters Pre-Cleared Music Tracks

promonet.gifThe Independent Online Distribution Alliance (IODA) has unveiled Promonet, a promotional distribution network which will provide podcasters, bloggers, Internet radio stations, e-zines and other promotional music sites with thousands of pre-cleared, legal music tracks, videos, artwork, and other promotional assets from IODA’s roster of over 750 leading independent labels.

Promonet is accepting applications from qualified promotional partners, with a full launch expected by the end of the month.

Electronica Site Makes it Easy to find Music for Podcasts

electromancer_arena.jpgPioneering music site Electromancer is making it easy to find electronic music that can legally be played in podcasts.

The site's new Podcast Arena lets podcasters browse through all of the podcast-legal tracks on the site, from newest to oldest. To access the music, just select a track and click. This opens the track's information page, where you can stream it or download it and put it your podcast.

"Podcasters are the new breed of unsigned music consumer, providing exposure for unsigned artists and it made perfect sense to me to allow them to find what they want with the minimum of fuss," explains site creator Marvey Mills. "I know the artists will be thrilled to know their music is being used in podcasts."

Sub Pop Records Says Podcast Our Music, Before We Change Our Mind

Sub Pop Records, home of bands like Nirvana, Afghan Whigs, Combustible Edison, The Reverend Horton Heat, Sleater-Kinney and Soundgarden, has announced that they are encouraging podcasters to use their promotional tracks within podcasts.

The label has added a podcast of their free music. According to Sub Pop's Dean Hudson, "We've basically set up our MP3 downloads (which we were offering as promotional freebees already) as an RSS 2.0 feed, so folks can suck them into their iPods ala iPodder and the like."

Netlabel Kahvi Releases Music for Podcasts

Podcasters looking for podcast-legal music have a new option. Online netlabel Kahvi Collective has announced that its "open source" electronic music is "completely free for distribution and use via internet radio stations and podcasts".

The music, created by unsigned artists, is released freely to give new artists a way to get their music heard.

The Kahvi Collective is a London, UK netlabel that specializes in electronic music, including instrumental, idm, chill, ambient, and experimental. It was founded in 1997 and has over 145 releases available by artists from around the world.
