Alex Sokirynsky, developer of the banned iPhone app Podcaster, is using the little known “ad hoc” method to distribute his software, via the site NextDayOff. Podcaster is designed to let you subscribe, manage, stream and download podcasts directly to your iPhone and iPod Touch.

Friday, we reported on Almerica Podcaster, a podcast client for the iPhone that Apple banned from the store because it duplicates features offered by the iPhone’s native software.

Almerica reports that Apple has rejected the hotly anticipated Podcaster iPhone application from the App Store:

Apple today released iPhone 2.1 software.
Here’s what’s in the update:
Decrease in call set-up failures and dropped calls
Significantly better battery life for most users
Dramatically reduced time to backup to iTunes
Improved email reliability, notably fetching email from POP and Exchange accounts
Faster installation of 3rd party applications

Best Buy announced today that it would be selling the Apple iPhone, starting on September 7th.
It will be the first US chain, outside of Apple & AT&T, to carry the iPhone.
