Apparently, folks here in the bible belt do not appreciate our strange sense of humor. Our trip to church on episode 5 apparently caused quite a stir in his office. Without warning, Nate was summarily released from his job today because someone we trusted at his company sent his boss a link to the site earlier this week. Nate was told our behavior on the show does not reflect the company "image"... even though we do it in our free time, not at work, and we never even mentioned where he worked. Anyhow, he was offered a severance package, so he really can't discuss the details about the company, but we will hopefully survive for awhile, at least until he finds a new job. Most of our shows are just plain goofy, nothing to get that offended about(we think), but some people are so uptight down here that it's ridiculous.
Feedback and sympathy comments are encouraged, he's pretty bummed right now.

Sounds like Nate's the first podcast casualty.
What can you tell about the situation? |

That seems like it would be unconstitutional; isn't that be infringing on your freedoms of religion and speech?
It seems like you're taking it well, but I would guess that this sort of thing could intimidate a lot of people into keeping their podcasts tame. |

Hey Nate,
Don't fret bro! I know it's easy for me to say. I have the same fear that one day I could say something on our podcast and make the wrong person at work angry and I could suffer the same fate. Will I give up podcasting? You bet I won't! I just love how our freedom to free speech is not really that free, I bet your ex-boss is a communist.
Best of Luck,
Brian.

Brian and I sort of touched upon this subject in RF006. Isn't it scary we live in a day and age where we have to worry about such things?
I suppose this is why I've only told a very small number of people at work about my podcasting activities (...and yet, I've noticed the word is already beginning to spread...). I'm very careful not to mention specifics about my particular employer, but still must hope I don't address a non-work related topic that, incorrectly, affects my workplace environment.
I'm not incredibly worried... but then again, which of us WERE worried before the axe fell? It's disturbing to know when viewpoints differ, those who may be drunk with power may wield it in a summarily dismissive way. Perhaps this is an occupational hazard of living in a right-to-work state... but it doesn't make it right.
