|
|
I know people out there want to make money with podcasting.
I am making money with my podcast business. Read this whole post if you are interested in making money in podcasting. I will share my business model with you. Take it for what it's worth. If you have a successful business model, please share it here. In this post, I share with you my operations for marketing, legal, podcast subscriber relations, podcast content acquisition, of course, the bottom line.
I have written a 41 page business plan and have attracted investors to give me funding for marketing and then it all started from there. If any podcaster out there needs a business plan for the podcasting business, please let me know here or leave me your email address. I better make this clear. I worked long and hard on my business plan for over 5 weeks and don't intend on giving it away for free.
My business model in a nutshell:
My podcast business is a local podcast network. I run podcast shows for health, unsigned music, real estate listings, restaurant reviews, comedy, local sports and news.
Advertising Revenue
I charge the advertisers a fee per show, not monthly. Then, the advertisers can pick and choose any podcast show that suits them. If they want to advertise on 3 podcasts, they pay to advertise on 3 podcasts. I also offer them a discount for advertising on more more than one podcasts. Usually, $5 to $10 less per pdocast show for more than one.
Show Hosts and Podcast Content Acquisition
I pay the show hosts a percentage of the advertising. If they have a good show, then their show gets subscribers. The more subscribers they get, the more I charge the advertiser to be on that show.
Legal Fees and Contracts
Every state has different laws. So, in my state, I had 5 contracts made up for the following:
1. Content Agreement for Show hosts
2. Band MP3 submission/Podsafe Terms and Conditions
3. Audio Advertising Agreement for advertisers
4. Privacy Policy
5. Investor Agreement for investors who give us fundung for marketing and operations.
* Incorporate your business into an "S" corporation or a limited liability corporation and expect to get sued. Make sure your lawyer has a good knowledge of business on the internet and copyright protection.
Podcast Subscriber Relations
This is probably the most important operation of all. If you have no subscribers, then you cease to exist and all other operations in the business model fail. We do all of the following things to keep our subscribers happy and communicate with them:
1. Offer new podcast shows at least once per week.
2. Send out surveys to measure subscriber demographics and psychographics.
3. We find out what the most popular shows are from Stats Pro in Feedburner.com.
Marketing and Advertising
1. We write press releases to local newpapers
2. Joined three Chamber of Commerces
3. Partnered up with 3 of my area's biggest and most popular web sites
4. Join up with ALL of the available podcast directories including Itunes. This is also good for search engine optimization. We come up #1, #2, #3, and #4 in Google because of all of our podcast directory memberships.
5. We even made up fliers and gavethem to a video rental store to put in their DVD cases.
6. Make up an advertising brochure for the advertisers.
7. Hire commission only salespeople to go door to door and do telemarketing.
8. Get your web site good search engine optimization.
9. Create ourselves a professional marketing plan...very crucial.
The bottom line
This is the real deal folks and my business model works and we are making money from this. I read no business book on this. It is all comon sense and I can help any podcaster who wants to make money accomplish all of this as I have.
You need a good agreement (good attorney), salespeople and marketing plan, business plan, show content.
If you have any questions, you are welcome to respond here or I can email you. Leave your email address here.

Hello Bruce ...
I want to visit your site and learn more, as it sounds intriguing and potentially profitable.
But -- and I say this respectfully -- I find your home page irritating. Is there any way to turn off the sound? I strongly dislike any site that begins playing sound (or video, for that matter) without my asking it to.
Thanks!
Bill |

Thanks, Bill. Point well taken. I added a "Turn Sound Off" button. Does that help? _________________ Long Island Podcast Network

| This guy does NOT have a podcast that makes money. He puts you on a list and spams you all the time and gets paid by other people to ACT like he's "informing" you of how you can make money. Its always "Go here and look at this site" and "go to so and so's site and see the whatever" and HE gets paid every time YOU go to one of those. A total sham. You should be ashamed of yourself dude. Now, come on and bad mouth me and tell everybody I'm full of it. I'll disect one of your spam emails right here for all to see. What a racket. |

KevinHoj, I don't know who you are, but I never sent you any spam. This web site is my own and it is a legitimate, functioning business. Nobody pays me get peope to the site and there is no spam. I have never heard of a web site where someone gets paid just for people visiting the site. The site has updated podcast shows, and I have podcast show hosts working for me to boot. I get paid on the advertisers.
I am not going to badmouth you. So, please do not badmouth me. You do sound like a person who has been burned by one of the scams out there, but I assure you, this is not a scam and I never sent you or anyone else here spam. Nobody is stopping you from creating a successful business like this. Read my business model above. I poured my heart out about marketing, advertising, subscriber relations, legal fees and contracts, and more. You still think this is a scam after I listed all of my operations? _________________ Long Island Podcast Network

Thanks for responding, everyone. I am making some new changes to it for video podcasting and a new marketing plan to get our video podcasts out there and will let you know when it is ready. I need some more time as we are trying to reach videographers now. I am not emailing people yet. Hold off for a while. You all have my business model in my first post. That should be sufficient to show you how my podcast business is successful. _________________ Long Island Podcast Network

Wow, I have never seen such generosity -- you have given us such invaluable information already just in the above post where you gave us an outline of your business plan. That alone was so helpful ... and you are willing to share your entire business plan which I asked for and am really looking forward to receiving.
I can only say that this person KevinHoj has you confused with someone else.
You responded well and that should be the end of it.
Thank you so much for your helpful posts. I lived on Long Island (East Northport) several years ago, born in Brooklyn. I think what you're doing is brilliant ... really great.
Keep up the good work and keep sharing. It will make you famous and will help your business grow. _________________ Janet - Movie Clips magazine national publisher

Thanks, Janet. That guy is disruptive. LOL. I was also born in Brooklyn. You don't live too far from me either. What are you doing with podcasting?
I should make one thing clear to people. I posted my business model up in the first post for everyone to get great ideas about what I think works. It is a lot of hard work and takes some investment (e.g. legal fees, marketing, host commissions, sales commissions, etc). My business plan is now 41 pages long and it took me over 5 1/2 weeks of hard work to get it all perfect and it has gotten me some good marketing funding. So, I am not sure if I am being fair to myself to give it away for free. I think I may move to helping fellow podcasters write their own business plans. I think with all the hard work I put into my own, I would probably hate myself for giving it away.
So, I would probably become a business plan writer instead. I still think that with the business model I posted above, that people should get a good idea about how to run their podcast networking business and ideas for a business plan of their own, but I am available to help podcasters write their business plan. I am still updating the business plan for video podcasting. _________________ Long Island Podcast Network

I haven't started podcasting yet, very busy publishing local magazines in NJ. But the restaurants I already work with as well as others may be interesting in advertising. Local realtors ... you know, it really is endless what can be done with audio and video podcasting!
Well, I'm not in the position to pay for advice (single mom), but a visit to your website was very helpful.
I wonder if perhaps we may be able to work together to expand your reach?
