Mbox 2 Mini - Worlds Smallest Pro Tools LE System

Get Digidesign at zZounds!

Monday, November 13, 2006

Digidesign has announced the new Digidesign Mbox 2 Mini, an ultra-compact, USB-powered Pro Tools LE system that packs professional features into a robust, easy-to-use audio workstation. The newest and smallest member of the Mbox 2 family, Mbox 2 Mini delivers superior sound quality and professional hardware design, and is the most affordable Pro Tools LE system ever. And with its diminutive size, the Mbox 2 Mini makes it even easier for novices and professionals alike to create and mix music while on the go.

“When we released our highly successful Mbox over four years ago, we were very excited to make Pro Tools available at a sub-$500 price point,” states Dusty DiMercurio, marketing manager of Digidesign’s personal studio product line. “With Mbox 2 Mini, we’re proud to expand our Mbox 2 family to include a solution at around $300—reaching a new level of affordability for a Pro Tools LE hardware/software system.”

Powered by industry-standard Pro Tools LE software, the Mbox 2 Mini ships with a powerful set of creation tools for composing, recording, and mixing music and audio. Mbox 2 Mini includes some of the same tools used by many audio professionals including DigiRack plug-ins, Bomb Factory plug-ins, the Xpand! sample-playback/synthesis workstation, and the Pro Tools Ignition Pack, which features an extensive collection of creation tools from Ableton, Propellerhead Software, IK Multimedia, Broadjam.com, and more.

Mbox 2 Mini Features

  • Professional sound quality (up to 24-bit/48 kHz)
  • Two simultaneous analog inputs and outputs
    • One XLR analog input for connecting a microphone
    • Two ¼” line-/instrument-level (DI) analog inputs for connecting guitars, basses, keyboards, synthesizers, drum machines, and more
  • Zero-latency monitoring
  • Compact, rugged metal enclosure for maximum portability and durability
  • Powered by USB (USB 1.1 connection, cable included)
  • Front-panel volume control and monitor mute switch
  • Two ¼” analog monitor outputs
  • Stereo headphone output
  • 48V phantom power
  • Kensington Security Lock

“Mbox 2 Mini represents the perfect intersection of customer requests and Digidesign passion,” states Matt May, product manager for the Mbox 2 Mini. “Mbox 2 has been very well received, but some people asked to take the idea even further - requesting a smaller, stereo I/O box. Our engineers were intrigued, and worked on their own time to create the Mbox 2 Mini. And while some might think small price equals small performance, we insisted that Mbox 2 Mini achieved the high-end specifications like its bigger Mbox 2 brothers. We’re thrilled to offer Mbox 2 Mini, which gives you the massive power of Pro Tools in a small metal box!”

Mbox 2 Mini will be available soon for $329 U.S. MSRP.
