Apple has updated the iTunes store with a directory of their top podcasts of 2007.
Lots of the usual suspects, including Sesame Street, NPR’s Fresh Air, Ask a Ninja, Grammar Gril Diggnation, Boing Boing TV & Tiki Bar TV. It’s a great starting point, though, for people new to podcasting.

Russell Holliman, Founder and CEO of Podcast Ready, tells us his company has just signed a distribution deal with consumer electronics manufacturer Coby that he expects will ship 5-10 million mp3-player/ podcatching devices over the next 12 months, starting with the fourth quarter of this year.

The results of the Summer ‘07 Podcast Peer Awards have been announced.

Nominations for the 2007 Podcast Awards are in progress. According to organizer Todd Cochrane, over 100,000 visitors have made nominations via the site for the event, now in its third year.

Amazon.com today officially launched the Amazon Podcasts network, an original podcast offering that features four channels of free content: Amazon BookClips, Music You Should Hear, Significant Seven and Amazon Wire.

Veteran broadcaster, musician and jazz afficionado Jason Crane has announced the launch of The Jazz Session, a weekly interview program with jazz personalities. The first episode features an interview with saxophonist Grant Stewart.

Actor’s union Equity purports to have achieved a world first, after agreeing a rights deal with the producer of an updated audio podcast of 70s cult sci-fi show Blake’s 7.
