Marketing Vox reports that NPR’s site traffic is up 78% over the last year, thanks in large part to podcasting and social networking features. NPR.org had 2.6 million unique visitors in August, a 78 percent increase from a year earlier, according to comScore data.

NPR has introduced a custom branded podcast player for Facebook, based on technology from SplashCast.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) announced plans Monday to make 12 more shows available by podcast on a regular basis, starting April 2. CBC Radio’s flagship newscast The World at Six, shorter hourly newscasts and political roundup The House will soon be available by podcast.

Radio industry website FMQB.com reports that public radio station KCRW/Santa Monica has been awarded a $600,000, three-year grant from the Annenberg Foundation, which the public radio station plans to use for “Web initiatives and podcasting.”
