Christian Site Intros Podcast Directory

“Religious believers want more “God on their iPod,”, and churches are rapidly finding that through podcasting, church members can take the Sunday sermon with them throughout the week,” said Lee Raney, president of ranks the top Christian podcasts by categories, such as church sermons, Christian music, and Bible study. The largest category is sermons, and over 150 church sermon podcasts can be found and subscribed to for free on the site.

The newest trend in podcasting is video podcasting, also called “vidcasts” or “video blogs.” The top video podcast on is, a daily video devotional by Pastor Andrae Bailey.

“I was driving down the road one day and realized there was a church on almost every corner,” explains Pastor Bailey, “but when I looked at the Internet, people had very limited spiritual resources to choose from.” So Pastor Bailey took his ministry outside of the traditional church, and focused completely on a video podcast to reach the masses.

Traditional churches are flocking to podcasting, too. While only a few mega-churches can afford to preach their message to the world through TV and radio broadcasting, almost any church can have a podcast that goes around the world. The top overall podcast on is Pastor David Legge in Northern Ireland, and visitors to the directory in the first few weeks have come from 31 countries including China, Germany, Australia, South Africa, India and Singapore.

Recognizing the growing number of churches beginning to podcast, is also launching a new service called SermonCast, which helps churches convert audio tapes and CDs to podcasts.

“With, we can help pastors and youth pastors turn their sermons into podcasts without the technology hassles, so they can focus on their message and ministry,” Raney said. first went on-line in July, and now includes over 600 godcasts to choose from.

The term “godcast” was coined in 2004 by Craig Patchett, founder of the The Godcast Network ( While the term is now used to encompass many religions, Godcast1000 is focused on the Christian faith.
