Women Choosing The Internet Over Sex

Hide the iPhone! Unplug the WiFi hub!
A new survey by Intel has found that 46% of women would rather go without sex for two weeks than give up the Internet for that long.Â
Just when we thought we were getting our sexy back, too.Â
Here are the bare facts:
- 46% of women would rather go without sex for two weeks than give up the Internet for that long:
- 49% of women aged 18-34 would make that choice; and
- 52% of women aged 35-44.
- 30% of all men would swap sex for the Internet for two weeks:
- 39% of men aged 18-34 are willing to make that sacrifice;
- 23% of men aged 35-44 said they would do so.
If these numbers are accurate, it’s likely that new media and social media are some of the culprits. Having 24/7 access to all the media you want, all the social connections you want, and billions of people as a possible audience for your thoughts can be a double-edged sword.
Before you get too out of joint, though, it’s worth noting that Intel based these stats on an Internet survey – so the numbers could very well be biased toward people that have already traded mounting the floppy for wireless downloads.Â
What do you think – is blogging replacing snogging?

Stupid question!
Good thing we don’t have to choose, right?
LOL- that’s because they’re having cybersex! Don’t women look for the connection before the physical? 😉
Seriously though, if you were going to give up the internet for two weeks, there would have to be stipulations. I do too many things via email communication that really can’t wait two weeks. (Girl Scouts and the kids school do a lot of their communicating online.)
But general internet browsing? Yeah, I could go two weeks without the internet. It would suck to watch CNN and MSNBC for my news. AND, I’d better get plenty of sex in that two weeks to help pass the time! 😛
Great post James!
My wife [a former technophobe] would just die without the web.
Come to think of it so would I…
Forgive my crassness, but if you’d rather do w/o sex for two weeks rather than do w/o Internet access for that same amount of time indicates to me that you’ve got either a serious problem with over-attachment to the Internet, or the misfortune of really unsatisfying sex.
