Hulu SuperBowl Ad Widget Puts The Best Ads Of The Year In One Place

Feb 2nd, 2009 | By | Category: Internet TV, Video

Hulu not only had the smartest Super Bowl ad last night, but they’ve put together an embeddable Super Bowl Ad Widget.

It’s a great idea, but their execution has one major flaw: Hulu is showing ads before the ads!

Fail!

Anyone who says thinks that advertising is dead on the Internet, though, only needs to look at the incredible discussion on Twitter last night (#superbowlads) to see that, while new media may change the rules, advertising can be as effective as ever.

It’s great to see Hulu (which I like) recognized that the next day everyone talks about the “Super Bowl ads”. But you’re right, they missed the mark because ads on ads are a turn off. Why they just can’t be happy with the promotional value of the widget and leave it at that amazes me. And it does something they didn’t want to have happen. It pushes viewers in the direction of YouTube to watch and share their favorite Super Bowl ads without the Hulu ads.

    Bill – that’s exactly what I thought.

If I was one of those Super Bowl advertisers, I’d be angry that Hulu is tacking ads onto the ads!
