$2.99 App Lets You Control GarageBand From Your iPad
Apr 4th, 2010 | By James Lewin | Category: Apple iPad, Podcasting SoftwareEntrackment (App Store link) is a $2.99 app for the Apple iPad that turns it into a wireless control surface for GarageBand.
If you create podcasts in GarageBand and you’ve got an iPad, Entrackment is a no-brainer. It’s cheap and it lets you control all the primary recording functions of GarageBand.
Entrackment automatically adapts its controls to the channels that you’ve set up in GarageBand. It then lets you control global playback and level, pan, mute, etc for each channel.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t provide access to all the features in GarageBand, by a longshot. But, if you’re someone who uses a fairly standard setup for each podcast, you should be to control much of your recording process away from your computer.
The multi-touch control of GarageBand’s record features is less fiddly than using a mouse, and could help minimize computer noise while you record by letting you sit away from your computer.
If you give Entrackment a try, leave a comment with your thoughts!
Hi James!
I’m one of the developers behind Entrackment and I want to thank you for the fine review!
We’re glad to have a first version of our control surcace available in App Store and are indeed aware of it’s lack of feature coverage. But we do have a plenty of features in the pipeline (and will try them out now when we actually can test on an iPad) and we’re more than happy to receive feedback, feature requests and ideas from users! Who knows, maybe we should add an optimized podcast view? 🙂
Thanks again, and stay updated!
I bet there would be some podcasters that would go for the “optimized podcast view”!
Hi Martin,
I do a lot of pro level recording (audiobooks, vo’s commercials, etc) and I am looking for a product to save time while recording myself. When I use punch record, I have to stop every single time I turn a page, go back, edit, and continue- what a pain! Costs me time and therefore money!
Do you think I can ever use garageband (or protools) from an ipad? I love that I never have pageturns and it is SO quiet I can use it in the studio.
Can I use your product with my mic (which needs phantom power through preamp, but is then connected from preamp to computer or devidce) via USB?
If I can’t use your product, please, please, please, can you develop something? I promise there is a huge demand for something like this 🙂
Warmly,
Emily B.
Could you put something in this app to stitch songs together that are in our music library/ iPad?
